Kildare Catholic College qualified four teams into the NSW TAFE All Schools Regional Netball Carnival which was held in Wagga on Thursday 9th August.
The Year 7/8 Kildare A team competed in Pool A and faced Wade High School in round 1. Wade proved to be a very competitive team and Kildare girls fought hard to win 9-8. In their second game they took on McAuley Catholic College and after a slow start they finished the game 5 points ahead. The toughest game of the day was against Tumut High school who won and were eventually crowned winners of the Year 7/8 division.
Kildare A side finished in 2nd place overall after going down to Tumut High in the grand final by 3 goals.
The Year 7/8 Kildare B team placed 4th overall. Despite not usually playing together, they formed quickly into a cooperative and effective team who willingly applied coaching direction. They won their round games against Temora and Tumbarumba, which put them through to the semi-final but Tumut High School were too good, defeating us by 4 goals.
The Year 9/10 B side had a great day. After a slow start against Wade, they came together to finish the pool matches with convincing wins against Temora and McAuley, finishing 2nd in their pool and earning a place in the semi finals. Their semi final was an exciting encounter. Our girls all played well, and almost managed to pull off the upset of the day, losing to the Kildare A side by 1 goal in the final minute of the game. The team ended the day with a comfortable victory, beating Griffith 17-6, to finish third overall.
Congratulations to our Year 9/10 A side who were crowned regional champions. Our girls played fast and skillful netball throughout the day, going through the rounds undefeated. They had comfortable wins against Tumut High, James Fallon High, Griffith High and Temora High. Their toughest match of the day was when they faced the Kildare B team in the semi final. Kildare B lead for majority of the match but the A side managed a last minute come back just before the final bell. Kildare A team saved their best netball for the grand final, where they defeated Wade High School 18 to 8. This team will now progress to the State Final to be held at Olympic Park in Sydney, next month. We wish them the best of luck.
Thank you to our umpires, Indy McLachlan, Eleanor Mason and Alice Toohey who all did a fantastic job. Also thank you to all the parents and friends who came to support us on the day.
Congratulations to all our girls on an impressive team effort.
