Curriculum Matters

Year 11 2019 Update

Thanks to those families that have taken time to engage in interviews regarding course selection for next year. We will collate the data from our conversations and then generate lines. The next step from there will require students to complete a google doc based on the finalised lines where it will be necessary to select one course per line.

If students have not engaged in this process, we will assume they do not intend on being at Kildare in 2019.

Introduction

Kildare Catholic College is participating in a project which is being conducted by Dr Marian Mahat of the University of Melbourne. The overall objective of this research is to support teachers to effectively use the new spaces that are being built and/or are planned at Kildare Catholic College.

What will student participants be asked to do?

Mr. Fuller will oversee the project at Kildare Catholic College. Ms. McDermott’s, Ms. Lyons’, Mrs. Kenny’s and Ms Fahey’s combined classes will initially be involved. Students will be asked to contribute to this study by participating in a 10 minute questionnaire at the beginning and end of the study. The aim is to get his/her perspectives on their attitudes towards your studies and their usual ways of learning in school.

How will your child’s confidentiality be protected?

We intend to protect your child’s anonymity and the confidentiality of his/her responses to the fullest possible extent, within the limits of the law. His/her name and contact details will be kept in a separate, password-protected computer file from any data that he/she supply. This will only be able to be linked to his/her responses by the researchers. In the final report, we will remove any references to personal information that might allow someone to guess his/her identity. The data will be kept securely for five years from the date of reporting before being destroyed.

Does your child have to take part?

Participation in this study is voluntary. Should you wish to withdraw at any stage, or to withdraw any unprocessed data your child has supplied, you are free to do so without prejudice.

How will I receive feedback?

Once the report arising from this project has been completed, a brief summary of the findings will be available to you on application to the investigators, or from the Melbourne Graduate School of Education. It is also possible that the results will be published in scholarly publications such as journal articles and presented at academic conferences.

How do I agree to participate?

If you agree to your child’s participation, please indicate that you have read and understood this information by signing the consent form. The researcher will contact your child’s school to arrange a mutually convenient time for him/her to complete the questionnaire before or after a classroom lesson.

Where can I get further information?

If you would like more information about the project, please do not hesitate to contact Dr Marian Mahat (Tel: +613 9035 5630; Email: marian.mahat@unimelb.edu.au). If you have any queries about this project in general, please contact Research Manager Joanne Blannin at joanne.blannin@unimelb.edu.au.
