Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,
Heritage Day.
Very well done to our Junior School Council (JSC) for organising Junior School Council (JSC) for organising our Heritage Day and free dress to align with National Reconciliation Week. All funds raised from gold coin donations will be forwarded to support a local indigenous creative arts group along with the Red Cross (also researched by our students).
2023 Foundation Enrolments and Tours
The school has received a number of enrolments for 2023 Foundation and we will soon be working through the process of finalising enrolment numbers. It would be greatly appreciated if families with older siblings already at the school, who plan for the younger sibling to join us next year, submit their 2023 Foundation enrolment documentation by Monday 20th June.
It would also be appreciated if you know of families who reside in the HPS school zone (www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au), and are planning to join us in 2023, that they submit their enrolment paperwork as soon as possible. The school will be providing offical offers of placement towards the end of July, however there is quite an involved process to work through before we can provide these offers.
The last tour for Term 2 will be held on Wednesday 15th June (9.30-10.30). Places can be booked through the following link: Heidelberg Primary School Tours
Parking Issues
We do appreciate the challenges that families face before and after school locating a parking space close to the school. At this point there is not a clear and sustainable solution to this issue. I am aware of many families who make use of free parking at the Warringal Shopping Centre, or park on neighbouring streets and walk to school. All that considered, there are still two key matters that I need to raise with the community regarding the current parking practices with some of our families.
Firstly, I must ask again that families not be utilising the Learn to Swim (LTS) car park next to school. This a designated parking space for LTS staff and customers. It has come to my attention that a some of our families are using this space and ignoring the requests of the LTS staff to move their vehicles. I would ask again for the understanding and cooperation of all of our community with this matter.
Secondly, I am obliged to address the issue of families parking in the vacant lot across from the school on Cape Street. I have received a number of emails from concerned families regarding the potential for a serious incident to take place, specifically with children walking through the space and drivers backing out. I personally witness this situation developing each morning and afternoon while on duty and I do share the concerns of a potentially serious incident taking place.
I do appreciate this will cause additional challenges for families to find a viable parking space, however I must request that families consider not using this space in the future.

Thought of the Week
The hardest part about having multiple kids is explaining why only your first child has a baby book.
