Education Week

Victoria is celebrating Education Week 2022 from Sunday 22 May to Saturday 28 May 2022.

This year’s Education Week theme, ‘150 Years of Public Education’, commemorates the past, celebrates the present and imagines the future of education in Victoria. This year at TPS we have two events scheduled for Education Week.  Please read below for event details.

Open Classrooms

We are thrilled to announce that we will (finally) be opening our doors to our wonderful families during Education Week (May 23-May 27). On Tuesday May 24 our current families will be invited to join the children in their classrooms from 9:00am to 9:30am.  The focus of this session will be on ‘Numeracy’ in the classroom.

Family Maths Night

The famous ‘TPS Family Maths’ night will be held on Thursday 26 May from 5 -6pm.  This will be an opportunity for families to come into the school and participate in a range of different maths based tasks.  Looking forward to seeing you all there.

NAPLAN

Last week our students in year 3 and 5  participated in the NAPLAN assessments. This year was the first time that TPS students have completed the assessments digitally (with the exception of year 3 writing)  Students were well prepared for the assessments. NAPLAN assessments are an important way to monitor the progress of our school over time and help inform our strategic direction as we work towards continual school improvement.

Lunchtime Clubs

Our lunchtime clubs have started up again this week to provide students with a range of options during lunch breaks. These clubs are really important for many of our students as lunchtimes can often be overwhelming and having calm and structured spaces can support the social and emotional development that takes place in the schoolyard. The clubs also provide additional experiences for students which may be related to their interests or an introduction to something new that may very well become their interest. Thank you to the teachers who give up their time to run these clubs.

Swimming

Thank you to the families who supported the swimming program both last term and more recently this term.  Without the support of volunteers these programs would not be possible.  It was fantastic to see the growth in confidence for many of our students over the duration of the program. Unfortunately due to COVID for the past 2 years many of your P-2 students had missed the swimming program and an opportunity to learn about water safety.  On the last Thursday of the program, all students were involved in water safety activities such as swimming in deep water with a lifejacket, rescuing a friend using floatation devices and learning about different water environments such as ocean rips.  Water safety is such an important skill for students to learn.

Our Grade 5 and 6 students will complete their water safety program later in the school year through Life Saving Victoria.

2023 Preps

If you have a child beginning prep in 2023, please contact the office as this greatly assists us with planning. Thank you to all those families that have already done so.

We are offering 2023 Prep Parent Information night on 2 June at 6:30pm for any families that are considering Toorak Primary School for their 2023 prep child. Please let friends and neighbours know also.
