Last week, students from English, Legal Studies and Global politics in Years 10-12 attended a Model UN event at Monash University. Students became country delegates for the day where they had to present their country’s position statements, negotiate with students from other schools and debate.
During today's excursion I experienced and learnt about the views countries that participate in the United Nations hold in regards to accepting refugees and asylum seekers. Also, how someone's personal bias and perspective can influence their position when it comes to amateur model un events. - Kushi
It was very fun!!!! - Rukhsar
During today's excursion I experienced and learnt more deeply about concerning issues in the world and how it is up to nations around the world to come together and take care of it. I also experienced what it's like to be in the Moot Court and the events that happen within it. Together with our group we worked as a team to create or change an amendment that was made by the UNAA so it can suit our nation, Bangladesh. Following that, we also contributed in debating and voted to try and figure out what amendments should be changed or kept the same. Overall the Model UN experience was academical, political and most important of all, enjoyable and fun! - Atefeh
During today's excursion I have learnt the importance of confidence and good public speaking. Having this skill allows the message being communicated to be clearer and also more persuasive. - Una
I learnt the purpose of the resolutions, key skills, cooperative problem solving, negotiation with other countries and making consultations. - Ina
During today's excursion I experienced what it was like to be a part of the United Nations and be responsible in taking decisions and actions that would affect your nation as a whole. Although this might not have been the aim of the excursion, Model UN gave me an insight as to what it would be like to be a lawyer- having to defend one's own country/client regardless of whether the morals/ideas/values of that country/client agreed with your own morals/values/ideas while also being 'attacked' by other countries/the opposing team about what your country/client has done. - Lujyin
