Students are planning to manufacture mobile phone covers. They have worked through a number of manufacturing techniques and completed research into the most suitable methods for manufacturing. Additionally, they have been considering different materials to use in the manufacturing process. Technical drawings and concept drawings are being created and then designs transferred to CAD.

Students were set the task to create a product that gave better accessibility to people with Arthritis or Parkinson’s Disease. USB sticks and a Door Key Holder to assist a person with limited finger movement have been designed. One student has also designed a coffee mug holder for use by people with limited hand and finger movement and is designed to take any type of coffee mug. These will soon be printed at school on our 3D printers.

This year we have been excited to move into our new kitchens. We are delighted with our state-of-the-art new kitchen facilities! Both staff and students are thoroughly enjoying cooking up a storm.
The Design Engineering Academy is a specialised pathway for students with a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. This semester the students have been studying the science of climate change and have developed a range of solutions including smart watering systems, mobile apps to encourage positive climate action and compostable flower planters. Picture is Ronan of Eucalyptus 9 with the gear box for his handheld wind turbine that he has designed and produced. Well done to all students!

How time goes by so quickly these days, we have been very busy with senior students working on their practical work and theory work within Studio Arts, Media and Visual Communication. The senior students have been spending many hours creating ideas, developing designs and annotating what they have learnt through their explorations.
Our Yr10 students have participated in excursions to Swinburne to participate in workshops and into the city to take photos. Yr9 students have been learning new skills, from understanding the use of a camera and techniques, to learning how to create a stencils for the Street Art CAT and have explored digital format to create work in Visual Communication. The junior students in art Yr7/8 have been learning some new techniques such as the broken colour technique and the visual communication junior students have learnt to work using floor planner to create their own home.
All students have been working hard to complete CAT’s, SAC and SAT’s to ensure that they have gained all the skills and knowledge for the units of work that have done during Term 2.
Our teachers go over and beyond to support all students, often teachers stay back to support students during lunchtime and afterschool and it is pleasing to see that some of our students take up these opportunities to further enhance their learning.

In Visual Communication Design, the year 7 and 8 students have been learning about communicating visually and the ways in which different people may respond to the same image.
Taking inspiration from the Rainbow Serpent, the ancient Aboriginal spirit force from the Dreaming, the students selected a culture to examine. The students then researched their chosen culture, initially investigating if snakes are considered to be good or bad. They discovered that although some people are afraid of snakes, others regard them as a sign of good fortune.
The students then looked at visual imagery from their chosen culture and used it to inspire their own designs. Using this inspiration and the elements and principles of design, the students created squares and drew snakes and ladders. This imagery was then scanned and manipulated using online software to create a snakes and ladders board game.
I think you will all agree that they achieved some really amazing results!
You may have noticed that the Google search engine will often change its regular logo to commemorate a holiday, event or historical figure. This is called a Google Doodle.
In Visual Communication Design, the year 9 students examined the communication field of design, with a focus on the art of typography, by creating a Google Doodle.
Students began by researching the vast array of different Google Doodles. Inspired by their research, the students then created their own designs. They were encouraged to use a variety of media that they may not have used before, such as watercolour, pastels or markers.
The final designs reflect the many different approaches to the task and showcase the students' interests and abilities, resulting in some very successful designs.

Our Year 11 & 12 Food Studies students went on a Learning through Lunch excursion on the 3rd June.
This wonderful experience was organised through ARDOCH, where our students went to Credit Suiss Bank in the CBD and William Angliss Institute. They had the opportunity to explore the world of work beyond their studies and gain knowledge into pathways through discussions and over a meal which allowed them to experience a fine dining setting.
Students gained invaluable knowledge and insight into the working world and the vast opportunities available to them moving forward in their careers.
