Principals' Update

Building Signage

Our brand new building signs arrived today, very appropriately with this week being Reconciliation Week. These signs are the result of a lot of work and thoughtful engagement with our First Nations community, both within the school and in the local area. They are also a small yet important step to support reconciliation as a school community.

Smoking Ceremony 

On Tuesday 7th of June. Simone Thomson, along with her mother Aunty Zeta Thomson, will perform a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony here at the school. Simone Thomson is a Wurundjeri and Yorta Yorta woman based in Melbourne, where she works as an artist. We would like to welcome any member of the school community to come along and attend this event.

Year 5/6 Camp

It was wonderful to see the tired but happy faces of the year 5/6 students and staff arrive back from their camp yesterday. We wish to thank all of the staff who put in long hours to make the camp a great success and our wonderful students for their enthusiasm and support of each other while on camp. We are told that the weather was kinder on camp than here in Melbourne!

Digital Learning Update

With the Digital Learning policy out for consultation, we thought we would share some digital learning examples. In 3/4, some students have been exploring the solar system as a whole class working within the science curriculum. After working through teacher-led sessions designed to engage students and provide an overview of the topic, students are now making use of iPads to conduct their own research into an aspect of the solar system that is of interest to them.

The 5/6 students have been making use of laptops to publish their written work. Students first work through planning, drafting, revising, and editing their hand written pieces in collaboration with their teacher. They then publish and print their final piece. These two short examples hopefully demonstrate purposeful use of technology within a carefully planned curriculum. Over the next few weeks we will explore technology use in the junior school and the use of technology in assessment within the school.

Professional Practice Day

A reminder that Monday 6th of June is a whole staff professional practice day. Big Childcare will be open, however bookings are essential.
