School News

Marni Naa Pudni

Welcome back to the start of Term 2. We hope that you enjoyed the beautiful weather over the holidays and had a chance to share some quality time with your children. We have had a great start and everyone is back focussed on high quality teaching and learning.

We have a really busy term once again with NAPLAN tests for Years 3 and 5 beginning this week; classes have excursions and incursions that build on their quality learning programs;  Governing Council is planning their first community event (please see the survey in the newsletter), Fisher 4-5 camp to Normanville and academic progress reports distributed to families on Monday of week 10. This is just a snapshot of the term, so please keep an eye on the upcoming events and the Parent Term Planner in all newsletters.

After a very long wait we have been able to start the term in the renovated Mellor building. Students and teachers are really enjoying the new learning environment and the transition has been extremely smooth. I would like to acknowledge and thank all of our staff that helped with the move and furniture making (we even had a few students) over the holidays. Without their dedication and commitment the beginning of the term would have been a lot more chaotic.

Thank you to all the families that attended the walk through last Wednesday. It was great to catch up with families and share the learning spaces.

We will be holding an offical opening and details will be distributed in the near future.

Thank you to the Woidt family for passing on the lovely photos that they took last week of Mellor.

Staffing

Alisha Fox-Wray (T19) will be taking maternity leave from Week 6 this term. We wish Alisha and her family lots of luck with their first additional to family. Due to this Jack Bayly (currently F10 and 4/5 Science) will be taking T19 for the rest of 2022. Jack has already been working closely with Alisha and Trent in preparation and is really excited about working with the Torrens community.

Zoe Patterson will be returning from maternity leave and will be team teaching with Cheryl Barker in F10 on Friday and taking 4/5 Science on Thursday.

Pupil Free Day

Just a reminder that we have a Pupil Free Day this Friday. Staff will be undertaking intensive learning in Maths aligned to our Site Improvement Plan. If you require OHSC please contact Kelly.

Assembly

As everyone would understand it has been quite difficult to host assemblies due to COVID.

We are planning to have our first Assembly of the term next Friday 20th May. It is hoped that the proposed changes too restrictions will be implemented and we will be able to hold it in the Gym. Further details will be communicated to families next week.
