Questacon Visit

Earlier this week, BSC were incredibly fortunate to receive a visit from Questacon, The National Science and Technology Centre, who are currently touring regional Victoria. Presenters sought to engage students with an interactive science task, asking them to build their own rollercoaster prototype.

Each pair were provided a frame to assist with the construction and given the same building materials with the exception of one mystery object. They were then left with 45 minutes to create their masterpiece.

Students needed to think outside the box, adapting their equipment to suit their idea. Amidst all the cutting and taping, there were plenty of interesting contraptions taking shape, with two groups deciding to join their work together, creating a dual rollercoaster that met at the bottom.

During testing, the first group were able to roll the marble down their coaster, watching it fly off the edge, bounce on the table and rebound back up, onto the second teams coaster, before finally rolling down the remaining distance and into the cup. Both teams were so impressed with the concept that they decided to leave the rebound as part of the overall appeal, resulting in an uproarious applause by the rest of the group.

Special thanks to teacher Kate Blackburn for organising this fantastic event.
