Principal's Report

Year 7-10 Return to School

We are very excited to have our years 7-10 students return this week. It is terrific to see them again.  We have heavily publicised the procedures we are all following for staff and student wellbeing as students return to school. I encourage all members of the community to make themselves familiar with them.

It has been particularly good to see parents staying in their cars when picking up their children after school. In order to minimise congestion as students are dismissed, we are rotating year levels through an early finish.

We are seeking support of students to quickly vacate the school grounds when it is their year level's time to leave early.

Students will be dismissed at 2:50 as per the roster below:

  • Week 9 (from June 9) – Year 8 and 10
  • Week 10 (from June 15) – Year 7 and 9
  • Week 11 (from June 22) – Year 8 and 9
  • On the last day of Term, Year 8 and 9s will be released at 2:05

Victorian Government funds a Gymnasium extension

The Victorian Government has launched the first part of their Building Works package, which will provide $2.7 billion towards shovel-ready projects to drive new economic activity across the State. At the centre of the Building Works package is $1.18 billion in education infrastructure projects that will create space for more than 21,000 extra students in Victoria’s education system and create more than 1,600 local construction jobs.

We are delighted that as part of this package the Victorian Government has allocated $5.85 million in capital works funding for our school, in addition to the $650,000 received in the 2019-20 State Budget, for an extension of the school's gym and refurbishment of classrooms adjoining it. The gym will be modernised and roughly doubled in size. It will be a huge benefit for our Physical Education and Sport programs. The project is still in the planning stage and is likely to commence onsite in December.

We, at Staughton College, would like to show our respect and acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which our school is situated, of elders past and present. We extend a warm welcome to everyone who visits our school.
