ITALIAN Term 2 Newsletter 2020

In Italian this Semester, Grade 3 students have been learning to communicate by referring to a range of structures and prompts. For example, students are beginning to explore the Italian Alphabet and use correct pronunciation so they can attempt to decode new vocabulary. During remote learning students have expanded their Italian vocabulary in areas of family, introductions and food. They have been constructing sentences and dialogue within these subjects. The children have practised asking and responding to simple questions about themselves and family. Students have also explored the geography of Italy, briefly looking at different regions. Topics covered include: greetings, introductions, Carnevale, family, food and geography.

In Italian this first semester, Grade 4 students learned to use Italian to communicate and to interact, exchange personal information and respond to questions about self and family. This was continued during remote learning. For example, to exchange greetings and to address people, students were given the opportunity to practise the use of appropriate language and pronunciation of new vocabulary using knowledge of the Italian Alphabet phonics and following formulaic expressions. Students also were able to explore grammatical structures to read, interpret and write singular and plural sentences using simple prepositions in sentences as well as to commence writing their own short narrative. Topics covered include: greetings, numbers, colours, animals, geography focusing on a region to research, school instructions in Italian, cultural studies and celebrations.
