National Reconciliation Week (27th May - 3rd June)

The 27th May - 3rd June was National Reconciliation Week (NRW) and a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

For this week’s learning goal in P.E- Students draw on artworks from a range of cultures. They explore the arts of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and learn that they are used for different purposes. The curriculum provides opportunities to build on this curiosity.

The classes watched film clips of Aboriginal dances. We discussed how wonderful the long and rich culture of Indigenous Australians is and how through dance Aboriginal men were able to tell stories and entertain their families. The children were fascinated by the dances and enjoyed interpreting them and performing moves that represented the kangaroo and the emu. On Tuesday 1Z were treated to being able to see an original Aboriginal emu and possum skin skirt made by Rondelle's mum.

Year 1s learning about indigenous culture and dance. Here they are learning a Kangaroo Dance with Mrs Blanas.

Other Physical Education teaching this week included learning to cooperate.
