Learning From Home: Capturing the Stories

By Dave Hughes - Head of Learning & Innovation

We are living in a period of history that we will continue to recount for generations to come. A pandemic that forced the world to grind to a halt. Borders closed, families separated, distancing rules, holidays cancelled, jobs lost.

It is a time of reckoning, and yet, we continue to go about our days. Waking up, taking care of ourselves and our families, being mindful not to spread germs and cautiously reentering the ‘new normal’.

In the midst of this time, our students have been hard at work. With creativity and adaptability from our teachers, learning has continued in a new way. You have mastered new platforms - Class Dojo, Google Classroom, LOOM, Zoom, Edrolo, JacPlus, Kahoot - just to name a few. You’ve weathered internet drop-outs, home workstation redesigns, navigated uploading projects and kept your families alive.

Sometimes it’s the little things - the ones we can often take for granted - that pass by without celebration. Rhythms and routines, the mastering of new skills and the simple fact that you have been doing this for months now!

Throughout this time, we have been collecting the stories. The moments that brought life and light to our students and families. Because it is in these moments that everything comes together - where laughter and meaning meet learning. Where hope and courage lead to growth.

We have been so encouraged and inspired by our school community and the life that was fostered even in the midst of trying times. It is a true testament to the strength of character of all that this experience was able to be a positive one, and that you worked tirelessly to create spaces of learning in your own homes and partner with our teachers in continuing the wonder of education. Thank you again for your hard work and courage!

You can check out a snapshot of the hundreds of stories from different areas of our school in the Learn From Home: Capturing the Stories Summary.  We hope that this snapshot gives you some encouragement as we transition back to full-time learning at school in Term 3!
