The importance of mental health and wellbeing remains at the forefront as teachers and students return to face to-face teaching over the next few weeks. Much has been said and written about how the period of teaching at home has impacted the mental health and wellbeing of all and particularly our kids. As HPE teachers we understand the important role physical activity plays.

Returning to school provides us an opportunity to focus on game based activities working mostly individually and using our online platforms to communicate our feedback and engage online. The focus on targeting and small games mostly involved the skill of throwing, judging distance to hit a target. Some activities have focused on health fitness challenges and some have been specifically aimed at outcome based challenges like planking. Routine and motivation have been a challenge and being willing to adapt to games in a home environment with only feedback online. The children and parents have done a great job recording and transferring data to online!

The focus at school now is to re-establish routines and build the relationships with the children and between each other. The importance of physical activity as we return cannot be underestimated and building confidence and fitness will be a key focus.
