A message from Leon

Womenjika to everyone as we return back to school.  So far it has been very settled with the Prep, Year 1 and 2 students coming back on site.   We are now into new routines and everyone seems safe and well.  Staff have done an amazing job getting everything ready to return to school.

The school continues to be vigilant around keeping everyone safe during this time.  We have an extra cleaner every day who cleans high traffic/risk areas such as door handles and rails.  Students are in the habit of cleaning their hands regularly and we have strict procedures if children (or staff) become ill.   At this stage, we believe that no one in our immediate school community has contracted COVID-19.

Thank you to all the parents and carers for your patience and understanding with drop off and pick-ups.  It can be challenging I know (particularly in the rain).   I would like to remind parents and carers to keep physical distancing guidelines in the street and please be careful with the extra traffic.

I have been working with the City of Darebin around all kinds of traffic issues.  I hear this is a common problem at every school at the moment.  I wish I had all the answers but decisions around crossing supervision and traffic are the responsibility of the City of Darebin.

Drink Bottles

The Department of Education and Training (DET) have asked schools not to allow students to use the drinking taps.  Students will be required to bring drink bottles which they will be permitted to use during the day.  Refilling of these bottles are not part of a regular routine.

Garden Fence.

There is a major development under progress in Clapham St where the apartments being constructed are near the east side of the school. Workmen from Acustruct have requested me for a slight widening of the lane way to allow crane access to the site. I have granted that request.

I have had an OH&S assessment completed of our school site and working with Acustruct as we continue to establish a safe place for children near the East fence.

I acknowledge that the Environmental team were not consulted in this process and the decision to proceed was mine as the Principal.  I am working also with School Council so that children are safe and that works will be reinstated correctly.

School Reports

The Department of Education require all schools to produce a school report this semester.  This has been challenging during the lockdown. The report will be a summary of what the student has been engaged with during the lockdown period and an opportunity for students to give their thoughts of their learning during Term 2. Reports will be released to parents via compass on
