Year 3-6 Sector

Year 3 Team

Dearest parents and guardians,

What a ride we are all on! With most of us back at school now, it’s hard to believe we were away for so long.

Firstly, we have some student work to celebrate:

Read about Jimmy and Bob’s swimming adventure in the ocean, in Lewis Litchfield’s narrative. Lewis (in 3E) has used the key features of narrative writing, to develop an entertaining story. Well done Lewis.

Maths and data collection in isolation gave the teachers and students a chance to be creative. The week 8 whole class Zoom conference became an opportunity for students to conduct surveys of each other’s interests and favourite things. The children have certainly become confident using Zoom and it’s features, for communicating with each other.

As part of National Reconciliation Week events, students also participated in the Little Long Walk, walking in the footsteps of Michael Long (the lockdown version). Michael Long walked from Melbourne to Canberra, in 2004, to talk to the prime minister about the plight of aboriginal people. We now have some lovely photos of the walks and the posters that our year 3 students made in support of this event.

We hope everyone enjoys the rest of term.

Warm wishes from the year 3 team – Denay, Ky, Jaime, Janina and Robyn.

Sending through the newsletter written up by Jessica Read from 6D – Enjoy the read….During isolation, we were required to learn from home for 8 weeks. It was a frustrating at the start. We had to learn how to use compass to access lessons, OneDrive emails, Zoom and Teams. As the weeks went by, we became more use to. Zoom and Teams were great ways to connect with the class virtually! I enjoyed doing our weekly zooms because I got to see my classmates faces but it was difficult at times when the audio wouldn’t connect or somehow the video turned off mid zoom!

The universal problem seemed to be the internet. It became difficult to download lessons on probability or watch YouTube videos our teachers created showing us how to use bar models to solve equations when the internet decided to take a nap from working too hard!

To sum up our experience, I’d say we are happy to be back at school with our teachers and classmates!
