Year 2 News

The year 2s returned to school from remote learning with energy and enthusiasm for their learning, at the start of week 7. We spent the first few days revising our classroom routines, as well as adding new ones, such as washing and sanitising our hands.

In Literacy we have revisited writing procedures, postcards and letters.  We even wrote a procedure on how to catch a teacher. In reading, we have been predicting while reading and checking if our predictions are reasonable.

This week we learned about verbs and adverbs. Did you know that an adverb adds details to how you have done an action?  For example; we can learn quietly. We can run quickly. We can wash our hands carefully. Quietly, quickly and carefully are all adverbs.

In Numeracy, we have been revising our remote learning about fractions, shapes, place value and telling the time. After the students revised their shapes, they created a picture of a vehicle or monster incorporating as many shapes as they could. We have been encouraging students to continue to reading the time using both digital and analogue times.

We have been learning about reconciliation week in the past few weeks. This time was dedicated to building positive, respectful relationships between Australians and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and celebrating indigenous culture. Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders have faced many challenges and inequality over the years.

These things have prevented them from reaching their potential. Being able to reconcile with them will help lead to respect and better relationships and partnerships. By nurturing these relationships and working towards a fairer society, the hope is to create a better and more unified Australia for everyone. The year 2 students created posters after watching some video’s and dreamtime stories.

In humanities, we have been exploring strategies we use when we are afraid. The year 2’s role-played the nursery rhyme ‘Little Miss Muffet’ and role played strategies to use for circumstances in which they can be afraid. In history, we have looked at Caroline Springs Community past and present times and how community services change over time and the impact these changes have.
