Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart School Community

You would all now be so aware, that our premier announced on Tuesday, metropolitan Melbourne will be returning to a state of lockdown for six weeks due to the increase in COVID 19 transmissions within our community.

As part of this lockdown, our student’s term holiday break will be extended for an extra week between next Monday 13th July and Friday 17th July. All Sacred Heart School staff will return to work as normal next week and commence planning and preparing for the real possibility of “distance education” being reintroduced for part of this term. As I write this letter, a decision about a return to “distance education” has not been made by our state government. Once I receive notification of a decision, I will inform all families and give further information about the necessary protocols and procedures that this decision will necessitate.

Next week, the school will offer a “holiday program” type supervision, for students whose parents are unable to work from home or do not have other satisfactory arrangements for having their children minded. Can I reiterate, students who need to be at school will not be doing school work, as the government has stipulated that they are still on holiday. To help plan for next week, I ask that if your children will need to be at school, that you email me by Sunday evening.

Personally I would like to express my sympathy to all our students and their parents and guardians. Whilst completely understanding the need for the measures our Premier has had to reintroduce, I also know that these uncertain times are really challenging. I sincerely hope that we can continue to work together during this period so that any concerns we have about our students, your children are alleviated as best we can. I would like to remind all parents and guardians, in the event “distance education” is reintroduced, every one of you despite the challenges and uncertainty did a magnificent job last time.

As a staff we are absolutely committed to working with our families as we get through these challenging times.

Please stay safe.

Yours sincerely
