From Principal Team

Good Afternoon Lakes Families

Week 10 has concluded and what a week it has been. It only seems like yesterday we were starting remote learning but we are now getting towards the back end of a very challenging but rewarding term. Walking around the school and talking with students, it is obvious how happy they are to be back at school with their classmates. Many thanks to parents who have supported the school across the term through the remote learning and return to school periods.

It is with mixed emotion that we inform our Lakes community that Chris Beare has been successful in gaining the position as Principal at Mill Park Heights Primary School. Chris started at The Lakes when it first opened back in 2007 and as a lot of parents would be aware, has been paramount in our school’s success. We wish her every success on her new journey and thank her from the bottom of our hearts for her leadership and investment in our school. We will formally farewell Chris next term. More information will be sent out to parents regarding this.

With the term finishing next Friday, our end of term award winners will be announced. This will look a little different this term with online assemblies taking place across both campuses to celebrate the amazing work from our students. Due to the current restrictions that are in place, assemblies will be taped and placed onto our school Facebook page for viewing. Please keep an eye out for this.

Dismissal on the last day of term will be 1:15pm.

School Drop Off and Pick Up

Please note that due to the current restrictions in place, the gate system when entering and exiting the Primary Campus will continue to apply to start Term 3. When and if changes are made, parents will be notified.

  • A-K will continue to enter and exit via the gates on Gordon’s Road.
  • L-Z will continue to enter and exit via the gates on Lakes Boulevard.

We are asking parents to drop students off anywhere between 8:45 am – 9:00 am at these designated gates. Students are to go straight to their classrooms when entering school grounds where teachers will be waiting.Parents are not permitted in the school grounds and we ask that all parents are social distancing during these times.

With the resumption of all students coming back to school, the roads around our school have become very busy again. Traffic congestion is a reality for most schools each morning and afternoon, however there are some things that everyone can do to make traffic as manageable possible. We will continue the kiss and drop off zone in the staff car park for all parents on the Primary Campus where the double gates are situated. This zone is for drop off only. Parents are not permitted to park in the school car park during either drop off or pick up times. This allows for better flow throughout the school and less congestion in parking bays at busy times. Please remember to use the designated crossings across both campuses. They only work if you use them!

School dismissal times will continue to stay the same in the afternoon on the Primary Campus to reduce congestion and reduce the number of adults around the school during pick up time.

Please be aware of these pick-up times:

Students in Prep, Year 1 & 2 will be dismissed at 3.15pm via the designated gates.

Students across Years 3,4 & 5 will be dismissed at 3.00pm via the designated gates.

Secondary Campus students will continue to be dismissed at 3.15pm Thank you for your understanding and support with this. It is hopefully only a short term measure and we will continue to keep families informed when/if this changes.

Uniform

A quick reminder to parents regarding correct school uniform. With the cold weather here to stay for the short term, a number of students on both campuses have begun to alter their school uniform and add multi coloured shoes, leggings or long sleeved t-shirts under their school tops. Our uniform is one that reinforces school pride and sets the standard in the community. We try our best to support families and students during these cold times but it is important that students adhere to our school uniform policy. Any issues, please come and speak to the school.

Breakfast Club and Healthy Snacks

Just a reminder that breakfast club will commence on Tuesday and Thursday in Term 3 from 8:15 am-8:50 am. This is a great way for students to fuel up before a big day of learning but to also to spend a relaxing time with teachers. Families are reminded that students cannot be expected to be in the best mindset if they come to school without breakfast or healthy snacks like fresh fruit. This is important if they are to maximise their learning and academic potential.

Have a great weekend.

Kerrie, Marcus and Bill.
