From the Head of Sport

This week has started to feel like things are getting back to normal with the tennis and basketball courts filled with MCA students trialling for the Term 3 season.  Our fields and grounds are also back in use by our cross-country team as well as our first rugby and football teams and it will not be long until we are able to launch into full programs for all football and rugby students.

While it has taken a little longer than we have hoped, we are now excited to commence our Tennis program under the guidance of Mr David Hodge from Rise Tennis Academy. David brings a wealth of experience at an international level and a high level of success specifically in school programs. All tennis students are reminded to check the training schedule in the Sports Buzz and on the College App for Week 9. Please read a brief overview of David’s background within the Tennis section.

With this in mind all students were reminded on assembly about the importance of being prepared for the seasons ahead. Things will move very quickly in Term 3 when we return and being organised is vital. Please see below for some important reminders:

WET WEATHER

Of course, with tennis finally beginning this week the heavens decided to open up and send us some rain. With this in mind all cancellations are made through the College APP so please make sure you have this downloaded to your phone and your parents’ phone. This will apply to all tennis AND basketball teams who have outdoor training sessions.

WATER BOTTLES

There have already been several reminders by the College to have your own water bottle. Specifically, in sport this is very important. If you need one, we are selling these through the Monitor System and you can collect them from the sports office for $5.00.

POSSIBLE SPORT CLASHES

It is at this time that we again remind all students of the clear College policy that MCA sports take priority over all external club sporting commitments.

While we understand there may be inevitable clashes this year to the usual flow of sport throughout the year, we expect all students to participate in their chosen sports for their College. We will always make an effort to support students and their many commitments and it is important that all students are upfront and honest if this could be the case so we can manage their commitment to the College.

TEAM SELECTIONS

Finally, the start to our Term 3 season and the process of trialling students under restrictions was always going to be difficult. Given these circumstances, we will still be doing the best we can to select students in the right teams that match their ability. It will be much more difficult than usual and we thank you for your understanding in this process.

Unfortunately, not everyone can play basketball or tennis this year and we are not able to offer the College internal basketball competition so doing your best at the trials is very important.

We wish all students the very best in their trials and in their preparations for sport next term.

Kind Regards

David Miles
