Visual Arts

Last week 5/6 students started work on ANZAC day poppy paintings.

We discussed the symbolism behind the flower itself and how materials used can also add meaning in artworks.

Students explored the ‘wet on wet’ technique, using watercolour paper, coloured dyes and salt.

Students in 3/4 viewed and responded to three Hundertwasser paintings last week, noting key characteristics of his work.

They then constructed a colourful, layered paper collage to be used on this week's artwork. Stay tuned!

Students in 1/2 viewed the artwork “Red Poppy” by Georgia O’Keefe, using ‘I notice’ and

'I wonder’ statements in their observations.

We then looked at mixing red and yellow to make orange, and to add white for both highlights to make pink.

Foundation students completed their outer space artwork last week.

Students have continued to review cut and paste skills (go slow! glue all the way around the edge!) as well as used a dye wash to react against their crayon backgrounds.
