Walk and Wheel Wednesdays
In preparation for our Booroondara Park Primary School’s National Ride2School Day on the 24th of March, Ali in foundation has been practicing riding his bike to school. Last week, his journey from home to school took him 40 minutes. Here is a photo of Ali the athlete making his way to school. He is a true inspiration to us all.
Walk and Wheel Wednesday is a whole school activity, with each class trying to have the most students either walking, wheeling or taking public transport to school. The winning class is awarded the Shoe Cup Trophy at each assembly. For those families who live far away from school, they can drive and walk some of the way.
On 15th March 5NK won with 72% of their class walking to school and 3AT came second with 64%. We were so close to having half the entire school walk to school again with 49.8% of BPPS students walking or wheeling to school! On 22nd March, 5SG came first with a score of 85%, 5NK and 6JK came in equal second place with 68%. On 22nd March we had 46% of the entire school walking or wheeling to school.
As well as your class winning the prestigious Shoe Cup Trophy, there are other benefits to walking or wheeling to school such as:
3/4R has been writing sensational poems to encourage students to walk and wheel to school
Walk and Wheel is fun to do.
You can do it anyway.
Get your health serious now!
Do walk and Wheel!

Walking or wheeling every Wednesday.
It is so fun so you can play, and I am in the water every day.

Important Date: Friday 24th March 2023 is National Ride to School Day.
On this day, students are encouraged to ride their bike to school. This is to allow students to be active and to raise awareness about protecting our environment. On National Ride2School Day 2022, students across Australia saved 28 tonnes of CO2 by actively travelling to school. BPPS has won the Ride2School competition and we have been awarded the smoothie bike. If you ride to school you have an opportunity to make a smoothie.
It is biggest day of the year. Each student who rides to school will be rewarded with a delicious slice of fresh fruit. If you are a parent or a helper it is not too late to offer a hand before or after school.
For Ride2School Day to run smoothly it would be wonderful if we could have some parent helpers. On the Friday morning, we will need assistance in two areas.
On the Friday afternoon, it would be wonderful to have a couple of parents ensuring that students take home their own bike or scooter. It’s not hard for students to get a little confused when they are tired at the end of a busy week!
All parents who volunteer need to have their Working with Children's Check.
On Friday, the times would be from 8.25 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. and then after school at 3.30 p.m.
Please contact Heidi Roast at heidi.roast@education.vic.gov.au if you are interested being a parent helper on the day.
