2023

In the classroom

Students in Foundation to Grade 4 have continued their work on rhythm and pitch.

Our Foundation students have been exploring some of the instruments we have in the music room, and learning about which instruments make a low sound, and which make a high sound.

Students in Grades 1 and 2 have continued to explore rhythm, looking at how different beats are notated. They have been listening to rhythms, learning to recognise and differentiate the different beats they hear and have been using the drums to play and record different rhythms.

Students in Grades 3 and 4 have been extending their knowledge of rhythm and beats, and learning about the function of a time signature. They have started writing their own rhythms using 4/4 time, and will play and record these in the coming weeks.

School Production update

Auditions for our school production commenced for our Grade 5 and 6 students this week, and we have seen some fabulous performances so far! All students are to be commended for the hard work they have put into preparing for their auditions. A big thank you to all the staff who have volunteered to help Mrs Thomas run the auditions. We have all thoroughly enjoyed watching the children getting into their Stone Age characters!

If your child is yet to audition, you can continue to help them prepare at home by supporting them in learning their lines, listening to them read their character and giving feedback on their performance. A reminder that the character your child is rehearsing for their audition may not have been their first preference, but preferences will be taken in to account when casting for the production.

Children will be assessed on their vocal expression, articulation, projection, facial expression, body language, gesture and how well they convey their character's personality. Your child's audition will be heard by a panel of three teachers.

Parent helpers

Thank you so much to all the parents who have been contacted me volunteering their help with props and costumes. I will be in touch shortly about what is needed. Please feel free to contact me emma.thomas2@education.vic.gov.au if you would like to be involved.
