Electric Vehicle Forum
On the 24th March the local Federal Member, Michelle Ananda-Rajah MP, held a public Electric Vehicle Forum at the Malvern Town Hall.
The forum was held to share information about the benefits and recent developments in the electric vehicle landscape in Australia. A number of car companies were represented.
Michelle invited our students to open the forum with the Acknowledgement to Country and for our students to prepare a piece on the environment.
Four of our students attended as representatives of our school, two Year 5 and two Year 6 students. I would like to congratulate Bonnie C (Sustainability Captain), Violet P, Grace F and Isla G for their poem and confidence, they were amazing ambassadors for our school. The students will present their poem to the school assembly as well.
Poem/s
Electric cars reduce the impact of climate change-
And in exchange,
Is a happier, healthier environment
So it can finally go into retirement
Electric vehicles reduce harmful air pollution
So this is a great solution
Make it be an evolution
Pollution is damaging our planet,
Next thing you know it’s a gruesome habit
Factories spewing out all this pollution,
So we need to come up with some sort of solution
Gas is caused when pollution breaks down
I hope that makes you all frown
Much of the world's population is breathing polluted air every day
People are dying isn't that just grey
Animals are dying too, isn't that mad
Pollution is that bad
I just don't understand why the world is living like this
If this continues the world will become a dry abyss
Pollution is one of the biggest global killers
Then there is no such thing as winners
To see our planet in such pain
A healthy planet we can’t obtain
When some cry others say it'll be just fine
But the earth isn’t ready yet to resign.
Co2 is at its highest rate
Antarctica is losing ice that's not great
It may become too hot to live in many places
Then we all have to live in different spaces
Even if the earth warms just 3 degrees it could be fatal
This would never had happened if we weren’t so datal
Sea levels are rising faster that ever before
That's not something to adore
Extreme weather events are caused by humans
People are acting like demons
Humans use more of earth's resources than it can renew
And it’s all up to you.
Littering affects everything
And oh, the destruction it will bring!
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is full of plastic
This you can agree is rather drastic.
We need to reduce our waste
At a very fast pace.
It destroys our world’s natural beauty.
So that makes this our duty
To stop this now
The animals will bow
Our first for rubbish has continued to explode
For our earth that's one gigantic load
Litter spreads like a disease
In a super fast breeze
Litter could end up in the ocean
That causes a lot of emotion.
Animals are under threat
Climate change our greatest regret
This is something to discuss.
The challenge is for all of us.
Our precious animals are at risk.
They'll be gone in a whisk.
We must act now and be fast
Or our animals time will have past
We really should take great care
Their environment we need to share.
We chop down trees and clear their land.
This is their home so understand.
Climate change decreases animals access to food
Destroys their habitats and effects their mood
Rising temperatures lowers survival rates.
Unhealthy ecosystems it creates
Our first people knew what to do
They cared for the land, water and animals too
Our koalas, kangaroos and kookaburras are unique
Take care or our animals will be gone in a week
There are actions we can take
Here are a few of them, just wait
Everyone can plant a tree
That includes both you and me
A healthy world we still can make
Let it not be our mistake
A positive action plan must be defined
A happy planet you will find.
Energy Drinks
There have been a range of reports in the media recently regarding Prime drinks.
Prime drinks are marketed as a sport drink and some varieties contain caffeine. The marketing has caught the attention of our senior students and it has become a drink some of them want to try.
We have had a number of our senior students bringing and consuming the drinks at school and sharing them with their friends. Concerns have been raised by parents that their children have tried these drinks.
The students should not be bringing these drinks to school as they do carry an 18+ rating, largely because of their caffeine content. Water is the best drink for the students to be drinking whilst at school.
Parents are encouraged to research these drinks before providing them to their children and we ask that they not be sent to school. We will continue to monitor the students sharing any food or drink with their friends.
