Project Compassion

Each year, Caritas Australia launch their Project Compassion Appeal at the start

of Lent. As the international aid and development agency of the Australian

Catholic Church, they are driven by social justice and the dignity of every person.

They work with local communities in Australia and overseas, listening to

concerns, assessing needs and working with partners on locally led development

programs. With hope, support and compassion at the core of what they do, they

work towards a world where all people may thrive.

Each classroom will have a Project Compassion box so that children can contribute some loose change during this season if they choose. Over the next few weeks, we will be learning about the challenges facing different people in society and having some fund-raising activities to support Caritas and raise awareness of the wonderful work they do.

Friday Mass- 9.30am

Most Fridays a class will be joining the parishioners for Mass at St Monica's Church.

This will help connect our school with the parish.

Your classroom teacher will let you know when your child's class is rostered on to attend mass and you are more than welcome to join us.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC) who Have Reached Catechetical Age

The Sacred Heart Cathedral Cluster of Parishes invites children aged 7+ and are interested in becoming Catholic to enrol in our RCIC Program. This program is “intended for children, not baptised as infants, who have attained the use of reason and are of catechetical age (7 years old and over). They seek Christian initiation either at the direction of their parents or guardians or, with parental permission, on their own initiative.” (RCIA, 306)

We had 8 candidates who have gone through the program last year (2022); some already baptised and some awaiting Baptism. The next RCIC will begin on the week of the 6th February 2023 and will run until the end of March. It consists of four fortnightly in-person meetings and four fortnightly at-home sessions.

We are looking to celebrate their Baptism on the weekend of 29th/30th April 2023 at any of the following Masses:

  • St Joseph’s Church, Quarry Hill, Sat 6pm;
  • St Monica’s Church, Kangaroo Flat, Sat 6pm, Sun 9am;
  • Sacred Heart Cathedral, Sun 11am.

If you are interested, please ring the Parish Office at 03 5443 4400 or email the Cathedral Office: cathedral@cdos.org.au or Fr DJ: dj.suguitan@sandhurst.catholic.org.au.
