So exciting to see that the CBCA have announced this years shortlisted books. As a school we are lucky enough to be able to secure a copy of each book from 5 out of the 6 categories this year. Check out the finalist, which one will be your favourite this year?
BOOK OF THE YEAR: YOUNGER READERS
Entries in this category may be fiction, drama or poetry and should be appropriate in style and content for readers from the middle to upper primary years. 7-12 years.
Note: Some of the titles in this category may only be suitable for readers who are in the upper primary years as they contain mature themes, including violence. Parental guidance is recommended.
BOOK OF THE YEAR: EARLY CHILDHOOD
Entries in this category may be fiction, drama or poetry and should be appropriate in style and content for children who are at pre-reading or early stages of reading. Ages 0-6 years.
THE PICTURE BOOK OF THE YEAR
Entries in this category should be outstanding books of the Picture Book genre in which the author and illustrator achieve artistic and literary unity or, in wordless picture books, where the story, theme or concept is unified through illustrations. Ages 0-18 years. (NB. Some of these books may be for mature readers).
EVE POWNALL AWARD
Entries in this category should be books which have the prime intention of documenting factual material with consideration given to imaginative presentation, interpretation and variation of style. Ages 0-18 years.
Note: Books in this category are for mature readers and some may deal with particularly challenging themes. Parental guidance is recommended
CBCA AWARD FOR NEW ILLUSTRATOR
This Award aims to recognise and encourage new talent in the field of Australian children's book illustration. Ages 0-18 years.
Last week was Harmony week and the theme for this year is Everyone Belongs, what a great theme!!!! During Library time students have been decorating an arm and placing them on the library window. Have you found your child's arm?
Book fair is coming in term 2, this will be our one and only fair this year. Scholastics book fair flyer will be coming home next term. Stay tuned for more information.
After feedback from many parents Australia wide, Scholastics book club have also decided to return to the previous format of the book club brochures. Keep an eye out for Issue 3 coming home in term 2!!!
Thank you to the Swain family for donating bean bag beans. We are still needing more to fill up bean bags, so if you have a spare half bag or even a full one just drop them into the office, the students will greatly appreciate them.
