Saving A Life

My sister-in-law's Apple Watch saved her husband's life last weekend.

This is from my sister-in-law:

My Apple watch saved Steve's life today. For fun, I read my resting heart rate on my Apple watch - it was 43 bpm. (Editor's note - Fliss is a Fitness Instructor and very fit, so her heart beats less frequently than most).

I challenged Steve to beat that but when he put my watch on it showed his resting heart rate as 147bpm. We were really worried about that result, so we went straight to Riccarton after-hours clinic. When we got there and told them the situation, they ordered an ambulance for us immediately. One ambulance rushed to the clinic to collect Steve, while another ambulance set out to pick up a cardiologist halfway down Riccarton Road, in case Steve went into cardiac arrest.

The Apple Watch heart rate monitor is accurate. See the picture at left from the hospital.

It turns out that if we hadn't detected the situation with my Apple Watch, Steve could well have died.

There is a lot to be done to fix the problem, but Steve is alive, and he owes it to my Apple Watch.
