A message from School Council President

A message from the 2023 School Council President, Verity Walker
A very warm welcome from school councilors to all our new Prep students and their respective families. We hope that all students have settled in well and are enjoying the diverse range of learning opportunities that Carnegie PS has to offer.
Thank you to school staff for your time in the ‘You Tell Us’ sessions. These meetings at the beginning of the school year contribute to the development of family-school partnerships that are so important in supporting students' interest, motivation and engagement in learning. In developing effective partnerships, schools recognise the shared interest and responsibility for students and the need to collaborate to create shared goals, share information and enhance opportunities for student learning.
A warm thank you also to those parents and staff who have expressed interest in joining the Carnegie School Council. We welcome a number of new councillors which is always pleasing, but also acknowledge the contribution of those who are concluding their terms. We wish to acknowledge Karen Phillips who has generously given her time to both the Parents and Friends Association and School Council as Treasurer over a number of years, and we thank Liz Harley, Anna Remfry and Sue McGregor as the employee representatives for their insight and support.
A word about myself…
I had the privilege of leading the School Council in 2022 and have been a school councillor now for 8 years. Two of my three sons are at Carnegie PS, Flynn (grade 5) and William (grade 3), with my eldest Eamonn now at McKinnon SC (year 8). I have worked in education myself now for 24 years, most recently as the Company Secretary for the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria. I look forward to meeting families in the school grounds or at school events and can be contacted at Verity.Walker@education.vic.gov.au as needed.
