Visual Arts News

Well, what a term this has been so far! The students have settled in well and everyone is on the same page.
In Visual Arts, our mission is to value all types of art: to be able to appreciate it, understand it and to be open to expressing artistic ideas in a variety of ways . Students have had the opportunity and be exposed to the Art areas of drawing, painting and constructing, using a variety of materials and techniques.
Foundation: Students learned how to draw a self-portrait, followed by making the initial of their name in a collage using scrunched tissue paper and various seeds. The results were brilliant!
Years 1&2: Students drew a monster of their choice, using black crayon and watercolor pencils. Fantastic work students! This activity was followed by making a cardboard kitten with clothing using different materials.
Years 3&4: Students produced ‘My Goal Self-Portrait’, offering a mixture of drawing and writing practices and helping to start to think of long-term goals that they would like to achieve. This was followed by designing a watercolour flower garden using liquid watercolour paints.
Years 5&6: Students designed Lego Mini figures that resembled themselves, involving drawing the Lego mini-figured body and sketching a variety of Lego facial expressions, hair and outfits. Then they designed and created Graffiti Name Tags, where students looked at the difference between street art and graffiti. They designed their own graffiti name poster with a background and produced some wonderful results. Well done, Year 5&6 students!
