Welcome to the 1/2 Learning Space!
We have had a fantastic start to 2023, the students are all settling in very well.

Literacy
This term in Literacy, students are working on different skills to develop their reading and writing habits. The main focus in the learning space is developing oral language skills through language experiences that will support the students in building their vocabulary to write simple sentences, both for recount writing and persuasive writing. In Reading, the major focus this term is developing reading stamina and fluency while helping the students learn to segment and blend phonemes to read new words through a 'science of reading' approach.
How you can help at home:
- Can your child form their upper and lowercase letters correctly?
- Can they answer questions and speak to you in full sentences?
- Is your child reading their reading book every night and writing a comment?
Maths
Year 1 students are learning all about numbers to 100. They are developing pre-place value concepts including; skip counting, grouping, counting forwards and backwards from any given number and counting collections efficiently. Year 1 students are also learning to tell the time to the hour and half hour and ordering the days of the week.
Year 2 students are learning all about numbers to 1000. They are continuing to build on their place value knowledge from Year 1 by representing three-digit numbers in a variety of ways; ordering numbers and explaining using place value language, skip counting from any given number. Year 2 students are also learning to tell the time to the quarter hour and build their understanding around reading calendars.
Inquiry
This term we are integrating Inquiry and Social, Emotional Learning very closely. Students are learning all about themselves, their emotions and expressing these in different ways. We will also be focusing on supporting students to develop and maintain friendships and how to resolve conflicts in a positive way.
