Aboriginal Education

Proud  recipients of a STEM scholarship will help achieve our goals - Georgia Sams

I, Georgia Sams (Year 10), and Esther Tedd (Year 12) have been awarded a scholarship that is known as the CSIRO Young Indigenous Womens STEM Academy. The Academy provides a holistic, streamlined approach to supporting Indigenous young women and promotes access to STEM careers through a range of opportunities, tailored to each student. This support will start before students choose critical high school subjects that enable relevant study and career progression into STEM fields.

The aim of the scholarship is to get young indigenous women who are showing potential in STEM the support and advice that they need to achieve their goals. We see the scholarships as being able to provide resources to help us improve our academic ability and potential to succeed in STEM, not only that but we will have access to mentors and tutoring, assistance in getting into University along with ongoing support. Possibly one of the biggest benefits that will come from the scholarship is the opportunity to meet and attend workshops run by people at the top of their fields. All in all, with what this scholarship provides you just can’t put a dollar value on what the scholarship will do for our futures.

I have the goal of becoming a Paediatric Surgeon in the NICU and Esther aspires to become a trauma surgeon in the army. We are both so appreciative of the opportunities that this will present to us and can't wait to see what the future holds for us both.
