What's happening At Newlands

This newsletter also contains a range of reminders, updates, requests and introductions. Please take the time to read the information provided.

Meet & Greet

What a great afternoon we all enjoyed last Friday. The turn-up was fabulous, and the atmosphere was so enjoyable to experience, akin to pre-covid events. Special thanks to the PFA team for feeding the hungry hordes the mandatory banger in bread. I would also like to thank Phil and Mich, two of our parents who played music, adding to the wonderful atmosphere on the day.

Welcome to the Team

This week we welcomed Thao and Raquel to Newlands as part of our whole school wellbeing team. They will work closely with Sonya and the teaching team, assisting teachers in supporting students displaying signs of anxiety or stress which may affect their capacity to enjoy school.

This fantastic initiative will support teachers, students and families as we navigate our way back through the post-Covid issues that are now becoming so prevalent in students in many of our schools.

Please see the Newlands Wellbeing Team page in this newsletter to find more informaiton on this initiative.

Grounds Upgrades

On the weekend, the carpark was upgraded so staff can safely park without the potential of having their car bogged.

During the school holidays, the area behind the portables will be made safe by installing retaining walls and pathways. There will be additional ground works completed around the entrance gate from the lane and the grass area in front of the portables.

Construction work

How exciting to see the floors being installed this week. This has given us an understanding of the building and its relationship to the internal courtyard in both learning worlds. Over the coming weeks, most likely by the end of term, we will see the second learning world constructed. We watching the crane at work.

Not-so-good news

Over the past couple of weeks, we have seen some very unpleasant graffiti scrawled in the cubicles of the girl's toilets. This situation is unsatisfactory and is very un-Newlands-like behaviour, and of course, not in line with our core values as a school. While the unpleasant messages are disgraceful, they impact Helen, our cleaner, to complete her tasks. We would appreciate families reminding students that graffiti is not okay.

Reminder

Monday is a public holiday, so there is no school. Enjoy the long weekend celebrating MOOMBA as you enjoy the last warm rays of summer.
