International Women’s Day

March 8th was International Women’s Day. This is a day when we acknowledge women who have been leaders in the world and a day to take action to achieve gender equity. In some countries today women and girls do not have rights we take for granted, like an education, being able to drive or having certain jobs. We can all take action by talking about these issues and striving for a great future together.

Keeping books safe

We have had a few damaged books again at the beginning of the year due to leaking water bottles.  This means that our budget is reduced for buying new books as it needs to be used to replace damaged ones.

Please help your children to check where their books are in their bags and that their drink bottle lids are nice and tight. We really appreciate your help in this.

Digital and online resources

As a Library we have subscriptions to some great resources for reading and also for research and learning. These are available through SIMON under the Library Links heading on the left. I have listed a few here. I will also continue doing some video book reviews for the students to encourage them to try something new.

Our resources include:

World Book Online

Has three levels of difficulty from Kids, Student and Advanced. There are great fun things like ‘Today in History’ and games in the Kids version. There are also activities and ebooks there too.

Sora

A new, exciting online reading resource for our students provided with support from the Sandhurst Diocese. Students can find ebooks and audiobooks to read at school or at home. They can earn badges for their reading.

Wheelers

We have had a subscription to Wheelers online Library of ebooks and audiobooks for many years. Wheelers also offers us some great wellbeing resources. Once downloaded these resources are available without the need for internet access for the two weeks of the loan. At the moment there are no filters for age so you may need to check in with your child.

Google Arts and Culture

We have this on our computers in the Library, a great resource which is free too. This is a collection of places around the world including museums and art galleries. Many of these have virtual tours.
