Catholic Identity

PRAYER

In next Sunday’s Gospel we hear the story of Jesus restoring the sight of the blind man. Who was this man? Interestingly, he does not have a name. He is only referred to as the “man blind from birth.” This is significant because his lack of name invites us to see ourselves in this story.   Our “blindness” can be many things including our inability to see the hand of God at work all around us. Sometimes, we can struggle to see the miracles of God’s grace in our lives and the lives of others.  This is no doubt why the church chose these words for the Gospel acclamation:

I am the light of the world, says the Lord;

whoever follows me will have the light of life.

CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK

Each year during the month of March we celebrate Catholic Education Week.  The theme for this year is ‘Forming lives of faith, hope and love in the light of Christ’.  On Friday March 17th, all Catholic schools are invited to send representatives to a Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne, followed by a concert in the park. This is a significant occasion for all Catholic Schools including for us at St John the Apostle.  Some of our Catholic Year 6 students will be representing the school at this Mass, while the remainder of the group will tour nearby Catholic churches including St Francis and St Augustine’s.

PROJECT COMPASSION

Thanks to everyone who has generously donated to our Project Compassion Boxes. So far we have raised around $600. As you can see from the poster this money will be used for a range of projects including supporting families to grow their own vegie gardens or raise a chicken to supply the household with eggs. Imagine what a difference we could make in the world if we were able to make our final donation over $1,000!
