Aoife's Message

Hello families,

Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona dhaoibh! Happy Saint Patrick's Day to you all! Our four school captains represented our school at a special Mass celebrating Catholic Education Week at St Patrick's Cathedral today. Here at Holy Cross we had a sea of green as people got into the spirit of the day. I heard quite a few 'top of the morning's' as a greeting today ;-)

Professional Development - Faith

We gathered as a staff on Tuesday to spend the day digging deep into our Catholic identity as a school. We examined our data, engaging with Scripture, recontextualising stories for today's context and exploring the R.E curriculum from Prep to Year 6. We will have a second professional learning day focused on faith early next term so that we can strengthen our pedagogy in this area.

Pony Visit

What a highlight this was! We are very grateful to the three families who volunteered to bring their ponies to visit us. Michelle Beven, Emily Fairmaid and Jessica Arnold went to a lot of effort to ensure this experience was possible. Thank you! It was a joy to see the children spend time with the ponies. The classes were held in our Outdoor Ed shed where Michelle spoke to all of the children about safety when working with horses, for example, where to stand and how to approach a horse. They talked about how to care for a pony and saw a demonstration on cleaning the ponies hooves. The children then had time to get to know the ponies and groom them, the ponies looked very well loved by the end of each day.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN assessments are well underway, with most children just having one more test to undertake. We encourage you to support your child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is a part of their school program and reminding them to simply do their best.

Zucchini Slice Day

Thank you to the fantastic team of helpers who rustled up 300 tasty treats for everyone to share last week! A delicious smell wafted up the corridor all morning, while there were many eager children ready to make short work of the food on offer.

School Closure Days 2023

Please read the letter that was sent to all families today regarding school closure days throughout 2023. These dates are also listed in the 'dates for your diary' section of the newsletter. Thank you for your support.

Have a peaceful and happy weekend,

Aoife
