YEAR 11 MARKETING EXCURSION
As part of the Marketing unit, Year 11 students went down to Centre Rd and explored different marketing techniques in the local shops.
We were split into two groups, one going to Woolworths for the first period and the other to the various shops on Centre Rd. While at Woolies we were required to look at specific products and how they were placed around the store. In addition to that, we also interviewed customers and collected data on how regularly they shopped and what they liked about it.
On Centre Rd, we looked at shops between Bentleigh Station and Woolies and went up and down the road without skipping a single store. We tallied up all the different types of stores and spent ten minutes analysing a specific store's customers. This allowed us to learn about customers’ behaviour, interests, age range and other data which is similar to what we have already done in class.
The excursion gave us an opportunity to spend time with our classmates as we were learning in a different environment as well as exploring the concept of marketing in the shops, where we are all familiar with, which was very fun!

LIFE AFTER SCHOOL: BROADEN YOUR HORIZONS WITH MACQUARIE
On Thursday 8 June three students from Miss James' Year 12 Accounting class were given the opportunity to attend a Banking and Finance Seminar at the Macquarie Bank's headquarters in the city. Please find below their reflections on this Seminar.

This was a wonderful opportunity and I was able to communicate and be well informed about the business sectors within Macquarie. Since I have a great love for Commerce, I was able to “broaden my horizons with Macquarie”, planning my life beyond just an ATAR number and getting into a university. Now, I am pumped with motivation and cannot wait to get a Commerce degree and potentially work in Macquarie. I believe they can provide students with a wonderful career as they are a very socially responsible organisation that cares for its employees and environment.

It was an absolute honour and a privilege to attend this Banking and Finance seminar at Macquarie Bank’s headquarters in the city. Over the last few years, I learned about the ways that markets operate, the way that money is handled, and most importantly, realised the importance of these industries in Australia’s flourishing economy.
Myself, Anna Chai and Pierre Guignard were given the opportunity to chat with employees of Macquarie Bank who work in various sects of the company. These included people who work in Investment Banking, Financial Services, Risk Management and Technology. They were extremely humble and open to giving us insights on what it is like to work within the Financial Industry and gave us advice that would really aid our transition into a working environment. Not only did we gain a better understanding of the corporation, but Macquarie also emphasised the importance of generosity and volunteering, in which Macquarie are strong advocates for.
I have learned that when entering the job market, you don’t only search for what has the biggest salary, but really be aware of the company’s moral values and their generous contributions to society around them.
