From the School Leadership Team,

From Mr. Chant,

Principal

I hope today’s newsletter and return to school update finds everyone well and our Prep students counting down the hours until they are back at school - I’m sure their parents will be!

Thankyou to our families who have been superb during the last weeks of the lockdown period. Your support, positive outlook and willingness to take on the home learning challenges has been outstanding. For some families this will need to go on for a little longer, but we will soon have everyone back on site at CJC.

The return to school plan for all students asks families to be part of the combined cooperative efforts to ensure the path back to onsite learning is positive and as safe as possible.

  • At this point we ask families to drop their children off at one of the school entry gates and make sure your child is onsite before 9.00 am. Learning starts at 9.00 am.
  • Staff will be on duty at each gate to answer questions and welcome our children back onsite.
  • Parents must remain outside the school gates and adhere to COVID health and safety protocols (while dropping their child/ren off at the school gates and picking up) including wearing a mask and social distancing.
  • Preps will be dismissed at 3.20pm each day.
  • Onsite Learning will continue for Essential Workers and these children will continue to use the front entrance - just like every other day of their program.
  • Late students will need to be signed in at the front office by a parent or carer.
  • Parents are asked not to come on site and if they need to be in contact with the Office, come via the main entrance, wear a mask and follow the QR code process, social distancing and COVID safe protocols.
  • Children from year 3-6 are asked to wear masks at school. We ask that these are cloth or similar, clearly named and washed regularly. We are not supplying masks for students.
  • Classes will be well ventilated. Learning may occur outside across the school day. Please ensure your child brings a jacket, as windows/doors will be opened.
  • Hats are required in term 4 - this is no different to any other year.
  • Several of our senior students are now eligible for vaccination.
  • The most important action school communities can take to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 is to ensure that any unwell staff, parents / carers and students remain at home and get tested, even with the mildest of symptoms, and that people who are unwell do not attend school sites.

Over the many years that our school has provided an education for all students on this site we have always enjoyed a wonderful relationship with families, the wider community and our parents. Your support at school events, camps, reading programs and fundraising efforts has ensured the school functions effectively, with access to required resources and programs and parent contributions. In 2022 there will be some changes to the Parent Payment program at CJC. Our Finance Committee has been working with staff to prepare budgets, allocate resources and make the necessary arrangements for the 2022 school year to commence positively and with all programs operating effectively. More details will be shared in the weekly newsletters.

Each year we ask families to provide our school with any information that will assist in establishing the 2022 class structures. This is not an opportunity to request teachers for next year or friends being placed in the same class. We ask for information that adds to the collective data used by staff to form these dynamic class groupings. Your children will be asked to identify children they work well with, we ask you for details around social circumstance (e.g. split family), health information and any other relevant details that will assist our staff. Please email this important information to the school email account:

Year 5 and 6 camp information was shared with families last night. Thanks to the families who were able to join the session and we will share all the slides and FAQ’s with our senior school families. We are planning to attend Camp Week Away from November 15 - November 17 and we will continually update families as new COVID updates are provided by the DET and the Chief Health Officer. Student safety is paramount and all our planning is aimed at ensuring the students can enjoy the wonderful opportunities a camping program offers, undertaken in a safe and well managed environment.

Keeping children safe online.  The global impact of COVID-19 means young people have been spending more time at home — and more time online. There are lots of great ways children can use connected devices to learn and play, but there are also risks. This is a reminder to be mindful of whether the content is suitable no matter what they are watching, whether it be on laptop, iPad or on television.

This year, our school production, “Rock Bottom” has endured the impact of lockdown, isolation and COVID restrictions. Our cast and crew have displayed amazing flexibility, endurance and resilience.

Now that we have a clear return to school direction we have determined that the performance will be filmed at school and made available to families after all the editing has been completed.

The week scheduled for the “Rock Bottom” recording and class performances is from Monday, November 29th to Friday, December 3rd. As more detail and information for families can be confirmed, this will be shared with you via the normal school communication channels.

More details will be included in Monday’s virtual assembly.
