Principal's message

Dear MGSC Community

We are in the final stretch and we are slowing emerging from a long period lockdown. In this message I am going to focus on our Year 12 students who have shown grit, determination and resilience throughout this year.

It has been wonderful to have our Year 12 students back on site as well as any Year 11 students taking a VCE subject.  We were very fortunate that our students have an opportunity to be together, not just in their classes but also during their free periods and breaks to share their thoughts, experiences and dreams with each other.

Firstly, I give my thanks to Sylvia Christopoulos and her VCE team who have supported our students through this topsy turvy year. Without a strong and compassionate team at the helm, this year would have been all the more difficult for our students. Their work will continue on as our students prepare for, and sit, their exams in the next month.  Karen Garton, our Careers Advisor, will continue her important work of guiding and counselling Year 12 student in their pathways for 2022 and beyond.

Next, I would like to acknowledge our College Co-captains, Nisha and Lily and our SRC Captain Mia who have worked onsite and remotely to make this a memorable year for every student in the school, but especially our Year 12 students. They are terrific role models who have always had time to devote to their important leadership roles. Of course, there are numerous other student leaders who have maintained contact with their peers and I also thank them for their leadership.

As you are aware, our school motto is “Courage and Work”.  This is such a succinct way of describing our Year 12 students, either collectively or individually.  As parents and educators, we have the years of experience behind us to adjust our mindset and pivot to meet the challenges of the past two years.  However, for our Year 12 students, who don’t have the life-experience that we do, it has no doubt been a challenge.  They have risen to this challenge by supporting each other and seeking support from their teachers, counsellors and parents.

I can’t say how proud I am of the courage and determination they have shown.

As we approach the end of their formal lessons, I wish them all the best in their exams and hope that at some stage we can celebrate this milestone with all year 12 students and their parents and/or carers.

Keep well
