Teaching and Learning

Welcome Back

Welcome back to all families for our final term for 2021. It was an exciting moment last week when our Year 12 students returned to the classroom to recommence their final year of learning with their peers and teachers on-site. Staff have enjoyed being able to teach their students face to face while the students have appreciated all the practical learning experiences that onsite learning can provide. Next week we have our Prep students return to the classroom at our Watsonia campus with Years 1 and 2 to follow later in the week. Upon the return to school there will be a focus on re-establishing social connections, setting up learning routines and explicitly teaching students the essential curriculum concepts. Teachers are working hard to ensure all student learning needs are catered for across the staged return to school and are looking forward to having all students back in classrooms in the coming weeks.

Planning Ahead

As Remote Learning 6.0 is nearing its conclusion, it can be challenging to keep the momentum of online learning. I have, however been incredibly proud of our students who have continued to engage in the learning tasks, demonstrating persistence and adaptability. As we prepare to return to onsite learning, planning ahead can help every child experience a smooth transition to school. Suggested helpful tips:

  • Where you can, have a daily routine. Create a shared timetable with your family and put it up on the fridge where everyone can see.
  • Include things like outside time, play time, free time on technology, creative time and learning time.
  • If possible, find a time every day to talk about the importance of good hygiene. Teach them the essentials of practicing physical distancing.
  • Check in with your child often. Give them opportunities to ask you questions over the coming weeks.

Our Allied Health team has put together some fantastic resources including calendars and social stories to assist with the transition which will be shared through your child’s section.
