Congratulations to our talented netballers on their successful Knockout Netball journey this year. The following students represented Loreto College very well and displayed wonderful sportsmanship, skills and determination throughout the competition. A big thank you to our dedicated coaches who gave up many hours to coach these girls.

Debating
Congratulations to our Year 5 Debating team who have qualified for the finals. Their Quarter Final Debate will be on Wednesday 27 October against wilderness. Loreto has the Affirmative of the topic ‘That we should ban unhealthy fast food’. Good luck to Eugenie Anderson, Lottie Allgrove, Camille Borrillo and Charlie Leroux-Gardiner.
ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools)
This competition has now concluded for 2021 with Writing having taken place on Wednesday 13 October and Mathematics for Year 9 students on Tuesday 19 October. For the Writing test, students had to write an argumentative piece titled ‘Is it ever OK to lie?’ A limit of 450 words was set, so there was some serious editing being undertaken by a number of the students! Certificates for all participants should be arriving at the College very soon, and students who excel will have theirs presented at College Assemblies.
Parents can access results online. You will need a 10-digit TAP-ID and a 4-digit PIN. If you have previously entered the ICAS Competitions, these will be printed at the bottom of your Certificate. If this is your first time participating, the College will provide these details for you. These will continue to be your log-in details in future years.
Ethics Olympiad
We are now preparing our Middle Years (Years 7, 8 & 9) for this event, to be held online on Wednesday 26 November.

International Day of the Girl
International Day of the Girl was the theme for Monday Junior school liturgy this week. The International Day of the Girl focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls' empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights. Year 6 girls prayed for justice for all girls and women globally, noting the stark differences in our world, where many are denied quality water, access to education, employment and basic human needs and life skills. The girls emphasized, that empowering girls and women to reach their full potential is a right that should be afforded to all. Dr Nicole Archard, reflected after the liturgy on how fortunate we are as an all-girls school to have within our means, the opportunities to make a difference in our world.
Webinar
A highlight for Loreto 2021 was Friday’s webinar to celebrate Day of the Girl. Over 300 Year 6 Loreto students, staff, sisters and friends of Mary Ward gathered to hear from inspirational speakers: Fiza Khosla (MWIA Community Engagement Co-ordinator), Rosalina Belo and Leonela Tilman (Loreto novices in Timor Leste) and Carina Ford (past pupil of Loreto Toorak, prominent immigration lawyer and advocate for the ‘Bilo’ family). We were invited into the world of girls supported by MWIA on the Kolkata brickfields, the ever-changing experience of girls and women in Timor and the plight of Kopika and Tharnicca Murugappan. It was an enriching and educative webinar, and a most tangible experience of the Loreto network.
Congratulations to the Year 6 leaders who guided us through the webinar.
