Olympic Change Makers

Each year, Nossal has the opportunity to nominate two students to represent us as Olympic Change Makers (formally the Pierre de Coubertin award). Following an application process, I am pleased to announce that Keisha Yam and Tarith Colombage were selected as our delegates for 2021. Keisha and Tarith had the wonderful opportunity to attend the virtual Olympic Change Makers Victorian Conference on September 2nd. Their reflections on their experiences at the summit are below!

The Virtual National forum for Olympic Change Makers 2021 was one to never forget, I was honoured to be one of two Nossal High students who were selected for this role. This year, the forum consisted of medalled athletes (Zac Stubblety-Cook, Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe De Aracho del Solar) who recently represented Australia in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. The program had an aim to give us advice on our role as change makers and how we can use sport in a way to promote the Olympic Spirit in our community and it certainly delivered.  We were able to learn about balancing work and sport life and ask questions to the OCM athletes, who were very insightful in sharing their stories. I would definitely recommended those who are passionate about sport and the Olympics Games to put in an application next year and become a change maker for Nossal.

The National Virtual Forum was indeed a grand experience amongst many other passionate students who strive to make an impact in their community by means of sport and the vivid Olympic spirit.  We were fortunate to hear firsthand experience from Australian Olympians, celebrating their achievements and their extraordinary journeys as "Change-Makers" themselves. Despite the pandemic, I do hope to reignite the Olympic spirit within our Nossal community, starting with a special mention to everyone making an initiative to take care of their physical wellbeing and/or encouraging others!
