Round Square International Conference 2021

On Monday Sept 20th, two students (Matthew Fox and Stephanie Wong) along with three staff (Sue-Ann Gavin, Claudia McCalman and Kate Anderson) met virtually, to being a four-day conference, hosted by Round Square students and staff from across the world.

The annual conference was cancelled in 2020 and this virtual world was a new experience for everyone. We chose specific features for our personal Avatars, including hair colour, glasses, clothing colour and so on.

The conference theme was “Blue Skies and Brave Conversations” and each day included different topics. RS conferences are student focused and each day there were activities for students, independent of staff. Students played games, enjoyed debating different topics, shared parts of themselves and their school and watched performances from RS students around the globe.

Each day also included a Keynote presentation with student led discussions afterwards in baraza groups. The topics for discussion included Identity and Inclusion, Climate Action and Ethical Leadership. The KWS team all commented on the interesting discussion topics, fantastic baraza leaders and the welcoming environment we experienced. The day closed with our school getting back together to debrief and plan for the following day.
