Boarding

Ms Hannah Whittemore, Head of Girls Boarding

The boarding houses are again buzzing with the excitement of the start of a new term, made even more exciting by reuniting with friends and housemates after yet another lockdown. Thank you all for the role you each played in assisting with the safe return of our boarders. Thankfully, we have been able to relax some of the restrictions our boarders have been under, and we can slowly begin to see life in boarding moving forward towards a new COVID normal.

The boarders had a wonderful first weekend in boarding which was certainly aided by fantastic spring weather. Staff commented that it was the most relaxed they had seen the boarders and how great it was to see them outside interacting with their friends, playing games and simply enjoying being in each others company- something they no longer take for granted. I enjoyed spending time with the Stuart Douglas girls down on the field playing cricket, morning tea with the New House girls, chatting with the Miller girls, and Sunday brunch with the girls from Loader.

I spoke to the girls about the plans we have for the PLC site, upgrading the boarding facilities and investing in not only their space but in them. The New House girls are enjoying their new common room, and soon all boarding houses will be able to take advantage of a renovated Dorothy Knox Hall, a much needed common space for the whole site. We are so excited to be able to give the girls the spaces they deserve and we have plans to make a difference in each house. A huge thank you needs to go to Addy Nuthall who continues to give up her time and expertise in helping our plans come to life.

I would also like to take the opportunity to congratulate our Boarding Leaders for 2022, I am looking forward to working closely with them, helping them to be agents of change and role models for their peers as they fulfil their leadership potential.

Our Year 12 boarders are very much in our thoughts as we wish them well in the lead up to the HSC. To say that this time has been challenging is an understatement to say the least, but we are so proud of the way you have held yourselves despite everything that has been thrown your way. The boarding community is looking forward to celebrating you and your achievements when COVID permits.
