Book Week celebrated on Friday October 8!

The theme for Book Week this year was “Old Worlds, New Worlds and Other Worlds”. Students explored what this theme means to them and were exposed to many of the short listed books.

In the lead up to Book Week, students in Kindergarten to Year 2 wrote a sentence of how their chosen character is a positive role model. Students in Years 3-6 were required to give a paragraph demonstrating knowledge of how their character encapsulated the 5 Core School Values; Courage, Resilience, Inclusiveness, Respect and Commitment. On Friday 8 October, 2021, many students in Pre-Kinder to Year 6 attended school dressed as their chosen, positive, book character.

The day began with a TEAMS meeting where all classes could come together online and the Guessing Competition of the Teachers’ photo of them when they were a child together with their favourite childhood books were revealed.

After recess, all students in years 3-6 were entertained online in their classrooms by renowned author, Tim Harris as he relayed anecdotes of his life and what has inspired him to write. The children had fun thinking and sharing their thoughts, ‘if they had the key to the staffroom’ and coming up with ‘excuses for talking in class’. They heard how Tim’s Year 4 teacher had an impact on his life and the life skills he has taught him. He dedicated some of his books to his Year 4 teacher.

In the afternoon, all children from Pre-Kinder to Year 6 got a chance to draw cartoons with the infamous Michael Salmon. Michael drew Rohan Kotasthane in Year 6 and then Olivia McBeath in Year 5 before it was time for Harriet Gibson in Kindergarten to draw him. All children were given the opportunity to draw Michael’s dog, Bobo. Michael also shared with the students many stories from his life and encouraged everyone to follow their dreams.

Year 4 reflections

Nick  “…they both inspired me to draw and write.”
