Term 3 Week 10 2022 - Friday 13th September

What have we been up to?

It seems like only yesterday that we were welcoming students back to Term 3 and now we’ve made it to the end. Over the last two weeks students have been continuing to work hard in all subject areas. In Reading, students have been working on recognising parts of a procedure. They have read a number of books about procedures including ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth’, ‘How to Babysit Grandpa and Grandma’ and ‘How to make a Paper Pirate Hat’. They have been identifying the title, the purpose, the materials and ingredients and the steps. In writing, over the last two weeks, the students have been working towards writing a procedure about a topic of their choice. Students wrote their procedure this week and many even got to publish their work on the computer. It has been an exciting couple of weeks in Maths! Students have been investigating 2 and 3 dimensional shapes by finding them in the yard, looking at their unique features and sorting them into their different shape types. Over the last two weeks, in Science, students have been learning about chemical sciences and what happens when you mix different materials together. Students witnessed what happens when you mix Coke and Mentos and also what is created when you combine citric acid, jelly crystals, icing sugar and water. This week we finished our unit of work on ‘Balanced Choices’ and students learnt a little bit about different drinks and the amount of sugar they contain.

Tips for things to do over the holidays

During the school holidays it could be a great opportunity to spend some time reading with your children - feel free to ask your teacher if you would like some extra books to take home with you or you need your login for GetEpic. For those wanting to do some maths over the holidays, why not count the number of pasta in a packet of pasta or group some pasta into equal groups of 4. Lots of fun can be had with a bowl of pasta and a bit of creativity. You may also want to keep a journal over the holidays to keep up your writing skills. But don’t forget to sharpen your saw as well!

Important reminders:

  • Have a safe and restful break! We’ll see you on the 3rd of October!
  • Please remember to pack your Spelling Homework books in your bag every Monday and bring your readers to school every day.
  • Please remember to bring your hats next term.
  • If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's classroom teacher through Compass or via the school email and it will be passed on to them.
  • Specialist Days - Monday - Health, Art/Cultural Studies & Music   Wednesday - PE & Art/Cultural Studies
