Fantastic 3/4

Year 3-4

Term 3, Week 10

What have we been up to?

In Reading, students have continued reading a variety of different types of poetry and learning the elements of poetry.

They have recognised that each poem has different amounts of lines, syllables, and that not all of them need to rhyme. Students have also explored how poems are a means to express emotion.

The students have transferred their reading knowledge into their writing by planning, drafting and publishing their own poems. They have chosen their own topics, placed the words that have related to their topic on a mindmap, and also enjoyed presenting their work to the class.

During Maths sessions, students continued their unit of measurement. They have focused on being able to tell time to o’clock, half past, quarter to, quarter past and to the minute while investigating the relationships between the units of time. Students have also focused on converting between units of time such as 2 days equals how many hours. In the last week of term we focused on angles. Students compared angles and classified them as equal to, greater than or less than a right angle.

In Science, students continued to explore various chemical science experiments by observing and exploring through hands-on activities. They made predictions about all three states of matter. In Inquiry, students identified how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples used the land for shelter. Students looked at what Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples used from the land to make shelters, how location had an impact on the materials used for shelter, and what types of shelters Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples made. Students designed and created a shelter, made only from natural resources.
