The Importance of Rest and Sleep

This week, 4M held their assembly and reminded us all of the importance of a good night's sleep. We all know how it feels when we are over tired- difficulty in concentrating, more grumpy, unable to complete tasks well. Here is some of the information which we thought would be most helpful for us all as we enter the last few weeks of the term.

Year 4M Assembly script:

Elieza: Thank you Giacomo. Why do we need sleep? Well you need sleep to rest your body, especially if you have had a busy day or week. It also fights off illness and helps your brain and muscles. Sometimes you might be in a bad mood because you didn’t get enough sleep!

Clara: Why do we have dreams? Scientists think that it's your brain sorting through all the things that's happened during the day, which is pretty interesting!

Christian: What should you avoid doing before bed?

You should avoid exercise as it increases your blood pressure and body temperature. You should also not have drinks such as tea, coffee, soft drinks or chocolate since these contain caffeine. Instead, you should have milk or water. Back to you in the studio.

Ava: Thank you for that update. I think I’ll be going to bed earlier tonight! Now we will cross live to Kim and Thomas with the resilience report.

Resilience

Thomas: Thank you Ava. Resilience is the ability to recover quickly from a difficult situation. For example, if someone is being mean to you, a person with resilience will bounce back and stand up for themselves and not get too upset.

Kim: Resilience is important for all school students. Being resilient is an important skill to have because it helps you stick up for yourself, or even for a friend and to recover and grow from a negative experience. Back to you in the studio.

Play Pals

Our Wellbeing leaders - Gemma, Lexi, Giselle and Krystal, have been hard at work running wonderful Play Pals activities for the St Justin's students at recess on Tuesday and Thursday. On Tuesday, Gemma and Lexi were joined by lots of junior school students who helped to create an underwater scene with fish made from their hand prints. This proved to be a very popular activity and the girls were really busy! Skipping on Thursday with Giselle and Krystal continues to draw a big crowd. It has been so lovely to watch the younger children grow in confidence with their skipping skills as well as develop their social skills, through encouraging their peers and cheering them on as we skip. Play Pals has been a wonderful re-introduction to St Justin's and the four girls have done an incredible job building it up!
