Prep Excursion - Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park

On Wednesday our Foundation students visited the Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park in Pearcedale. We learnt all about the different features of Australian animals and what they need to survive. We were shown how to look after and care for  our native animals. We fed the kangaroos and wallabies and had an up-close encounter with the reptiles. We saw many different species of birds as well as cute and cuddly koalas eating gum leaves in the trees.

Hooptime

Last Friday our Year 6 students took part in the Hooptime tournament at Knox Basketball Stadium. Our Year 6 team consisted of an All Star Girls team, an All Star Boys team and three Future Stars teams who competed against the other schools within our district.

It was such a fun and entertaining day with many of our students giving competitive basketball a go for the very first time. As usual, our students showcased great team work and mateship across the many games played over the course of the day.

It was also so wonderful to see many parents in attendance supporting each team.

Thank you to all the attending staff who assisted on the day and the support from parents and family in the stands. The Year 6 students had a blast.

District Athletics Carnival 2022

On Thursday this week, a team of 63 students from Years 3-6 took part in the District Athletics Carnival competing in track and field events at Knox Athletics Centre.

The weather was wet and miserable but that didn’t dampen the spirit of our future Olympians. Each and every one of our budding superstar athletes represented themselves and the school magnificently well in trying conditions.

We had many successful results to come out of the day with many of our 63 students progressing through to the division carnival which will be held later this year. However the best result was saved to last with the 2022 Wellington District Winners Shield being won by our wonderful St Justin’s Athletes which is an amazing achievement for our school.

Thank you to Mrs Slonim and Mrs De Le Haye who worked tirelessly on the results recording desk and to also Mr Giosis and Mrs Stewart who made sure everyone was where they were meant to be at the correct time.

We look forward to the Division Carnival in a few weeks time.

Mr Johnson.

Celebrating Book Week

What an amazing day we had on Thursday this week, dressing up as our favourite book characters for Book Week 2022. The staff were delighted to see so many students in costume and greatly appreciate their bravery, as well as the amazing work done behind the scenes by parents. Great work everyone!

Take a look here at some reflections on the Book Week books, who we voted as winners and the amazing outfits our students wore.

VIRTUAL REALITY AT ST JUSTIN'S

Dear Parents and Families,

This year, the Year 5/6 students are embarking on a Virtual Reality (VR) journey using a program called CoSpaces. CoSpaces provides students with the ability to demonstrate their knowledge in new ways by building virtual interactive worlds, simple or complex, that are approachable for primary aged students.

In order for students to experience the world they have created in virtual format, we are seeking donations of old iPhones that you are no longer using at home.

The iPhone must work but does not need to be a new model. We would really appreciate any donations in order to allow our students new and exciting opportunities in 21st century digital learning.

We will be collecting the devices over the next 2 weeks so please send them in via your child's classroom bucket, preferably in a bag/envelope with attention to Mrs. Wickens (Digital Technologies Leader).

A Visit from Noel - St Vincent De Paul Society

Today, Noel from the Saint Vincent de Paul Society came to visit the Year 1s and 2s.

Ethan 1L- Noel told us that he was very poor when he was young so he knows what it is like to be hungry and that is why he helps others.

Jackson 1L- The volunteers at Saint Vincent de Paul help the poor by gathering all the peoples’ donations and giving it to the poor.

Nathan 1LSaint Vincent de Paul worked to help the poor around the world and people still come together and act like Saint Vincent de Paul by giving food to the poor people.

Maddison and Elijah 1L- Noel told us that the hands (on the logo), are the hand of Christ, the second hand is giving and the bottom hand is the poor hand that is receiving.

Ethan 2D - Noel from St Vincent de Paul wants to act like Jesus through his actions. He shows kindness to strangers and he cares so much for people who are poor. He cares more about others than himself. Noel is not selfish.

Adele 2D - When Noel came to visit us, he told us that he gives food to people so they do not starve. Mini Vinnies collect food and he shares it out to people who need it. Noel only gives food and not clothes to people.

Amelia 2D - St Vincent de Paul gave food to poor people a long time ago. He was poor and he know what it was like to be hungry and poor so he asked for money from rich people to donate it to the poor. He helped many people.

2L - Elyana and Anahera

Noel encouraged us to help those in need because they are less fortunate than us. He taught us about loving others just like Jesus. Noel spoke to us about sharing and spreading our love by reaching out and helping others in our community. Noel knows what it is like to be poor so he would like us to help others in need.

2L Xavier

St Vincent De Paul was a very kind man. He wanted to show kindness to others in need. He visited the elderly, the sick and gave to the poor.

Antonio - St Vincent De Paul put others first before himself.
