Education in Faith

The Assumption of Mary

On Monday 15th August, we celebrated the feast of The Assumption of Mary into Heaven. This is a day that we remember when Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken into heaven, body and soul, after she died. Mary’s life and death are a wonderful example of praise and thanksgiving to God.

Prayer

Gracious and generous God,

you looked upon your faithful and trusting servant, Mary,

and raised her up to live with you in glory.

May we be inspired by her love for you

and her faithfulness to doing your will.

We ask this through Jesus, your Son.

Amen.

Reflection:

August 15 is a special day – The Feast of the Assumption – when we remember how at the end of her life, Mary was taken up to heaven to be with God.

Mary is very special because she was chosen by God to be the mother of God’s son, Jesus. And Mary says "Yes" to all that God asks of her.

Think of how you can be like Mary and say yes to God.

A visit from Noel - St Vincent de Paul Society

Last week, Noel from the Saint Vincent de Paul Society came to visit the Year 1s and 2s.

Ethan 1L- Noel told us that he was very poor when he was young so he knows what it is like to be hungry and that is why he helps others.

Jackson 1L- The volunteers at Saint Vincent de Paul help the poor by gathering all the peoples’ donations and giving it to the poor.

Nathan 1LSaint Vincent de Paul worked to help the poor around the world and people still come together and act like Saint Vincent de Paul by giving food to the poor people.

Maddison and Elijah 1L- Noel told us that the hands (on the logo), are the hand of Christ, the second hand is giving and the bottom hand is the poor hand that is receiving.

Ethan 2D - Noel from St Vincent de Paul wants to act like Jesus through his actions. He shows kindness to strangers and he cares so much for people who are poor. He cares more about others than himself. Noel is not selfish.

Adele 2D - When Noel came to visit us, he told us that he gives food to people so they do not starve. Mini Vinnies collect food and he shares it out to people who need it. Noel only gives food and not clothes to people.

Amelia 2D - St Vincent de Paul gave food to poor people a long time ago. He was poor and he knew what it was like to be hungry and poor so he asked for money from rich people to donate it to the poor. He helped many people.

2L - Elyana and Anahera

Noel encouraged us to help those in need because they are less fortunate than us. He taught us about loving others just like Jesus. Noel spoke to us about sharing and spreading our love by reaching out and helping others in our community. Noel knows what it is like to be poor so he would like us to help others in need.

2L Xavier

 - St Vincent De Paul was a very kind man. He wanted to show kindness to others in need. He visited the elderly, the sick and gave to the poor.

Antonio - St Vincent De Paul put others first before himself.
