TLA AWARD WINNERS

Across our school, Term 4 is always a time for celebrations.   It is no different in the Library.  The highlight of Term 4 was our special lunchtime pizza party which took place on 6th December to honour all of our Teen Library Advisors (TLAs) for their extraordinary work in 2022.  As we got back to the new normal, the TLAs overcame challenges and worked tirelessly all year: arranging uplifting events, creating stunning displays, organising engaging activities and so much more.  The party on the 6th was a chance for staff to thank all of our remarkable young leaders who make the Library the joyous heart of our school.

Well done to all, but, in particular, a special thank you to the TLA Award Winners for their outstanding community service:

2022 NANOWRIMO YOUNG WRITERS PROGRAM

In 2022, over 140 students took up the challenge to write a novel in the month of November.  The International NaNoWriMo YWP Challenge is a month-long writing event designed to free up creative spirits and help writers find their voice.

Each lunchtime, many of us budding writers, young and old alike, met in the Library to swap ideas and benefit from being in a supportive writing community.  Congratulations to all of the students who participated.  I’m currently tallying some eye-watering word count totals.  All will be revealed in the final week of school.

Major awards and the final word count totals will be announced in a special lunchtime event on Tuesday 13th December. Afterwards, the results will also be posted on Compass.  So look out for this news and be amazed at the astonishing achievements.

As I write, the tantalising question on everyone’s lips is: who will take out the highest NaNoWriMo YWP Word Count in 2022?

HOLIDAY CARD MAKING

We are looking forward to our final card making event with Ms Maree which will take place at lunchtime on Thursday 8th December.  No doubt the chance to create a card to gift to a loved one during these holidays will prove as popular as all the other card making and library club activities we have held this year.

2022/2023 SUMMER READING CHALLENGE

We encourage everyone to continue to read for the holidays and participate in the Summer Reading Challenge over the summer.  More information can be found on our website here. Reading 4 to 6 books can help students beat the summer slide and avoid a decline in their learning.

By reading 4 to 6 books students can also get a head start to the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge in 2023 and earn a special certificate at the start of the year. Make sure to fill in the form at the end.

On the holidays, consider visiting your local public library.  Public Libraries not only have great books but also engaging activities that are free for all the family to enjoy.

Also, remember the Library websites are always active and you can borrow online at any time.
